UFC 5 Recap
UFC 5

Love the stars in the background, UFC.
Andy Anderson vs. Jon Hess
Jon Hess clubbed the shit out of Anderson, did a little ground stuff, then won by a kick and knee to the face while Anderson was on the ground, near the fence.
They really liked this big man vs. little man stuff, didn’t they?
Todd Medina vs. Larry Cureton

Commentator mistakenly called the guard, "the mount". Tons of headbutts and groin punches were thrown. Cureton tapped out of frustration.. wtf?
Oleg Taktarov vs. Ernest Verdecia

Taktarov worked a good guard, swept and choked Verdecia out.
Dan Severn vs. Joe Charles

Severn took Charles to the ground, pushed him up against the fence, then GnP'd into a stand-up rear naked choke.
Dave Beneteau vs. Todd Medina

Beneteau took Medina down and threw a few headbutts. Medina had no ground game and tapped in the face of strikes from above (see what I did there?). Commentators were still silly enough to contend that the fight was over the second the takedown happened.
Oleg Taktarov vs. Dan Severn

Severn took Taktarov down, and while an old woman (his manager) looked on, he delivered dozens of terrible knees to the face and ass while holding onto the fence. Stoppage by the ref due to pwnage.
Ken Shamrock vs. Royce Gracie

Shamrock got into Gracie's guard and.. well, the end. Gracie grabbed his gi to keep Shamrock's head down while Shamrock spent all his time trying not to be swept. I don't understand why Shamrock didn't throw rib punches. The fight was stood back up in OT, and Shamrock got a single good punch in. Seems like they didn't have judges for this fight so we've got a draw. Lame.
Dave Beneteau vs. Dan Severn

It was a bit of a strange wrestling match with Severn consistently trying to take Beneteau down. Once down, Severn quickly won with a keylock.
Verdict: Meh. Commentators still didn’t know the difference between the guard and the mount.
